Catavina Baja Dinosaur Comic Demonstration

ARTIST: William Louis ("Bill") McDonald Senior.

COMPANY: Argonaut-GreyWolf.

CLIENT: Me. And the adult pulp "sensacionales" nave estelar prehistórica comics publisher Dinosario Fariñas and one of its editors, Ulises Farinas.

PURPOSE: Associates of Fariñas including Ulises Farinas and Francisco Marquez Torres of the Novedades Publishing house including both film director Guillermo del Toro Gómez and Mexican journalist and Ufologist Jaime Maussan were very busy working in Mexico City's version of the historietas comic book and graphic novels industries. This was a time just before the arrival of the Asian invasion and Manga styles which blew through Mexico City like the (un-named 1959) Mexico hurricane in around 1991.

SUBJECT: Creating a comic book cover art demo-rendering of dinosaur artist Mark Hallet's style of illustrating Tyrannosaurid giants such as T. torosus, Tarbosaurus bataar, and T. rex. I was already on to the idea that I actually needed to work with one of the skulls up in Montana or via the Museum of the rockies, but Francisco and Ulises were fascinated by Mark Hallet's illustrated paintings.

YEAR: 1988 in February, which was a month after I received my Honorable Discharge from the United States Marine Corps.

MEDIA: Pentel black felt tip pens, Higgins black India ink, fine quill point pen tips, and Bic ball point pens.

NOTES: I really regret this render because it was made just prior to my fateful meeting with Dinamation's George Oshevski in San Diego in 1991 when he taught me all of the critical points along a T-rex skull that needed to be acknowledged in ANY drawing or illustration regardless of style or application.

Per Wikipedia, Mark Hallett is an American artist best known for his illustrations of dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals. Having originally coined the term "paleoart" to refer to science-based paleontological illustration, Hallett remains one of the most influential masters of modern dinosaur imagery.

Affiliation: National Institutes of Health.

Research interests: Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Movement Disorders.

LOCATION: This comic book cover page rendered was drawn in the restaurant of the La Pinta Hotel in Central Baja California which was and is Mexico's Sonoran Desert "Jardín del Edén" ("Garden of Eden") surrounding the town of Catavina.
